I'd say I came out of it thinking the game was good but I just can't say I love it and I don't see myself ever playing it again since a lot of it felt like a trudge. The fact that it has so many re-used enemys/boss fights was insult to injury too. I don't think it's a bad game or anything but the pacing just felt really abysmal for most of it, and it just didn't click with me for large portions. God of War (2018) is one that i did kind of force my self through. In terms of games where I do feel like I was forcing myself to push through a game I wasn't super enjoying I agree with quite a few games that have been mentioned already. While technically that is forcing myself, I wouldn't really put it under the same umbrella because I don't necessarily think in those cases it's the games fault. I'd say I struggle to finish a lot of games in a timely manner these days but that's more down to being busy with other things, getting distracted and then having to push myself to get motivation again. But it was too much for me and my gaming habits, so I ultimately threw in the towel. I tried to persevere through to completion, as I wanted to see why so many love this game, and I can definitely now appreciate why.
I'd have loved to skip through it, but it all felt so quintessential to the experience, that it felt wrong to that left me feeling like I was spending 90% of my gaming time simply reading and pressing the A button, rather than actually gaming and exercising my brain, curiosity, or inciting an emotional response. Yes, there's a mountain of depth to its visual novel side, with so many different activities, stats, ways to level them, and well-written confidante scenarios, but there's just so damn much of it. Presentation is immaculate, characters are likably, concept/premise is compelling, and the gameplay loop of visual novel/turn-based battles is interesting.īut good lordddd does that game drag and move at a glacial pace. I really, really wanted to love this game.
